Steven M. Peņa

Steven M. Pena is
a
member of the Firm's Public Law Section. He joined the firm in 2007 after
having worked for a Fortune 200 insurer. Mr. Peņa brings to the firm a
wealth of knowledge in insurance, insurance defense, and complicated claims
management. He was educated at Southwest Texas State University [now Texas
State University] (BBA 1984), Our Lady of the Lake University (M.B.A. 1989),
and received his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law (JD
1994). While at St. Mary’s Mr. Peņa was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal
scholastic honor fraternity and the Hispanic Law Students Association. He
was admitted to the Texas bar in 1994 and is licensed in the United States
District Court for the Western District of Texas.
Mr.
Peņa’s practice is focused on providing general legal services in the
representation of local municipal governments. He currently serves as the
City Attorney for the Cities of Helotes, Cotulla and Sabinal, Texas where he
provides general counsel and municipal court prosecution services. Mr. Peņa
is General Counsel to the Cotulla and Helotes Economic Development
Corporations and has recently been retained by the City of Cuero to advise
and assist in the creation and implementation of a Buildings & Standards
Commission. Mr. Peņa has significant experience in multi-jurisdictional
property & casualty insurance matters and has represented clients in
criminal law, personal injury, family law cases, real estate transactions,
as well as the acquisition and sale of water rights.
