S. Sanchez

Maria S. Sanchez
is
a shareholder of the Firm
and a member of the Firm’s Public Law, Utility and Environmental Sections.
She was educated at Incarnate Word College (BA, 1978) and Texas Southern
University (JD, 1986) and was a member of Law Review and of Phi Delta Phi
honorary fraternity. She was admitted to the Texas bar in 1986, and is
licensed to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern and
Western Districts of Texas. Additionally, Ms. Sanchez has
a Martindale-Hubble Peer Review
Rating of AV. This rating is the highest for legal ability and ethical
standards.
Ms.
Sanchez has over twenty years of administrative law experience. Ms. Sanchez
was employed as a Staff Attorney with the Texas Water Commission and the
Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) from February 1993 to
May 1999. While employed with the TNRCC, she provided legal support to the
Water Utilities and Air Quality Divisions. She has experience handling:
complex administrative hearings; air permit proceedings including emergency
orders; draft and review contracts; Water District matters, including
hearings on impact fees, creation and conversion proceedings and reviewing
bond orders; proceedings for applications of water and sewer Certificates of
Convenience and Necessity; wholesale rate appeals; ratemaking; rulemaking;
and prepared bill impact statement during the legislative sessions. As a
member of the Firm’s Public Law Utility and Environmental Sections, Ms.
Sanchez represents clients before the Public Utility Commission and Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality.
She
is a member of the State Bar of Texas Administrative and Environmental Law
and Public Utility Law Sections, Austin Bar Association, Texas Women
Lawyers, Travis County Women Lawyers Association, Hispanic Bar Association
of Austin, American Bar Association, Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation,
State Bar of Texas standing committee on Racial Diversity in the Profession,
Impact Austin, Board Member of Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas,
Board member of the Travis County Women Lawyers Foundation and Board member
of the Hispanic Bar Association of Austin Foundation.
