James C. Woo
James C. Woo is a
shareholder of the Firm and a member of the Practice Management Committee.
He is head of the Firm’s Estate Planning and Probate and Business Sections.
Mr. Woo is a native San Antonian and received his undergraduate degree from
the University of Texas – San Antonio and his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s
University School of Law.
Mr. Woo is Board
Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal
Specialization. In the area of Estate Planning and Probate, his practice is
primarily focused in the areas of Wills, Trusts, Estate Administration,
Probate Litigation, and Guardianship. Mr. Woo’s practice also includes
business succession planning, asset protection, corporations, and real
estate transactions.
Mr. Woo is also a
Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. Membership in
the College is by invitation and is only extended to lawyers who have made
significant contributions to the Estate Planning, Probate and Trust Law
field through teaching, lecturing, and writing. The College is considered
the preeminent organization of estate planning lawyers. Mr. Woo is also
currently serving as a member of the Council of the Real Estate, Probate,
and Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. The Section is the largest
section within the State Bar with over 7,000 members. He is the vice-chair
of the committee that monitors and proposes legislation affecting decedent’s
estates.
Mr.
Woo is a frequent speaker at professional seminars, including the State Bar
of Texas Advanced Estate Planning and Probate Seminar - Problems Related
to Guardianship Proceedings [2001] and Planning for the Physical
Reality of Death and Disposition of Remains Mental Health Commitments
[1994.]; State Bar College – Summer School (Mental Health Commitments –
Patient’s Rights vs. Benefits of Treatment [2004] and The Top Five
Things Babyboomers Have to Know About Estate Planning and Probate
[2003].
